WIRE are proving to be an increasingly influential band. Born out of the punk explosion of 1976/77 they have continued to entice and intrigue with their ever shifting musical ideas. Current Britpop bands like Blur, Menswear, Elastica and Lush have all cited them as an influence. REM have recorded a cover version of one of their songs. Pink Flag, the band's first album, was even reported to be Bob Dylan's favourite punk album. EMI have consistently reissued the group's first three LPs on CD to great acclaim. They have also compiled a CD of rarities and out-takes. A recent Wire tribute album featured Lush, My Bloody Valentine, Lee Ranaldo (Sonic Youth), Scanner, Main, Chris Connelly and many more.

WIRE Kevin Eden "Eden allows the group to pen an autobiography by editing together individual and group interviews, plus those of their immediate collaborators, to form a whole. He delivers a sharp portrayal of the punk industry's behaviour, influence and morality." **** Q Magazine "It is balanced and far from adulatory; any band or their fans could feel well served by a book like Eden's." VOX
"Here is a fine complement to the band's music, from its self-effacing
title to the sheer wealth of interview and photographic material. All four
band members have spoken to the author at length, and offer insightful and
entertaining recollections of the events and the group's history. Everybody
Loves A History will delight and enlighten." "Those interested in one of the more innovative and unpredictable bands of the post-punk era will find this an enlightening and enjoyable read with decent pictures (a rare thing in biogs)." Time Out "The book begins at the very beginning and pursues the band's story to today." Select |
